M/K Wheeler is an unusual story – a family business started in 1948 and still trading successfully today!

Over its 55-year history, the company has survived and prospered through some very turbulent times and has grown to become a UK market leader in steel tube stockholding including chrome bars, aluminium and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals supplying to Corus, Wolseley Centres and Caterpillar Peterlee Limited, to name but a few.

It’s impossible to guess whether the Wheeler family could have known when they founded the company back in 1948 that after the turn of the millennium the business would grow to employ over 60 staff, turnover around £10,000,000, include an in-house delivery fleet of 13 trucks and run offices and warehouses in both Lancashire and the West Midlands.

In 1997 Wheelers achieved greater financial security with the decision to sell the company to US based Marmon/Keystone Corporation, a member company of The Marmon Group, Inc., a major group comprising more than 100 member companies in over 550 facilities and employing over 40,000 people in 50 countries. M/K Wheeler is now a company with major corporate backing still operating with the values of the family business.
